Carpet Remnants Help Out College-Bound Grads
Carpet One Floor & Home in Lima, OH does their part to help college-bound students (and parents) as they head off to school. In 2003 a friend of owner Lisa Hyland approached her about getting a piece of carpet for their daughter's dorm room at college. Lisa found a nice piece that was leftover from a claim and gave it to them. The family insisted on paying but Lisa felt that giving it to them was "the right thing to do". She knew that by the time parents reached that part of the process of sending a child to college they were probably "maxed out" on expenses.
Since this original gift, each year Lisa selects remnants of carpet (up to about 12 X 12') to set aside as “Dorm Carpet.” These pieces may be remnants that have discolored over time; colors that just didn’t sell for one reason or another or even pieces that were returned by the customer but not able to be returned to the manufacturer.
Each year, Carpet One Floor & Home in Lima, OH usually gives away anywhere from 5 to 10 pieces to recent graduates. “It's a great feeling to be able to do this and it's an awesome way to meet kids going off to college,” say Lisa. “You get to hear about where they are going, what they plan to study and they are very, very grateful (especially their parents!)”
